The University of North Texas settled with professor Timothy Jackson for $725,000 after he accused the school of limiting academic freedom and free speech following racial backlash from his 2020 symposium+ The settlement, ending a five-year dispute, allows Jackson to resume editing the Journal of Schenkerian Studies and drop his First Amendment claims.

Voting Centers Now (an advocacy group of Denton election workers) started a petition on June 17 asking for countywide Election Day voting because 10 to 15 percent of voters face confusion; at Tuesday's commissioner’s court, GOP Chair Melinda Preston warned that voting centers could risk voter privacy and lead to long lines. The petition aims to simplify the voting process and reduce errors in polling locations.
