Denton PD is investigating a fatal downtown shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon when a disturbance on the Square led to 61-year-old Jon Ruff being shot multiple times on W.

Hickory Street—he was pronounced dead at a hospital—and the shooter was detained and is cooperating with police.

Denton police said 61-year-old Jon Ruff died after a fight turned violent and he was shot several times on W.

Hickory Street last Saturday at 12:10 p.m.—the suspect was detained and police are asking anyone with video to contact Detective Badiru.

18 and Scrivner does not plan to resubmit.

Denton Mayor Gerard Hudspeth was contacted by ICE Dallas last week—requesting a meeting with city leaders to discuss the ICE 287(g) program that could let Denton police screen immigration offenders; city officials stressed that any decision from the meeting must be approved by the full City Council.
